Ska!!!

February 12th, 2005 | Comments Off | Tagged as: ,

Talk about bittersweet. Unfortunately, The Orange County Supertones, the premier Christian ska band out there, are calling it quits this year after nine years and six studio albums together. However, they are being nice enough to their fans (me included) to give them a farewell tour.

One of their stops on their tour is in Tipp City at The Avenue. This tour date (March 4) happens to fall during a three day weekend for me. I was already planning to go home, so what does another four hour round trip for a concert matter? For the Supertones, I really don’t care.

I’ve seen the ‘Tones in concert once before, during their tour to promote their album Loud and Clear in 1999 or 2000. It was at a small church somewhere around Pataskala. They were awesome.

This time around, they are traveling with The Wedding and Roper as opening acts. The Wedding is a new punk rock kinda sorta band that is releasing their first album this spring. Roper is a punk band fronted by former Five Iron Frenzy front man Reese Roper. I’ve listened to material from both bands on PureVolume, and The Wedding sounds pretty good. In my opinion, Roper sounds a little strange, but maybe it is just because I am disconnected from the whole Denver, Colorado punk rock scene.

Anyway, I am pumped, and I can’t wait the 20 days until the concert. Alright Supertones, let’s rock!

Facial Hair

February 11th, 2005 | Comments Off | Tagged as:

If any of you noticed, I did indeed have facial hair in my pic on the About Me page.

While I was practicing for the last indoor soccer game (consolation match) of the term, I hurt myself. I wasn’t paying too much attention to the ball while I was kicking it, and, instead of kicking it, I stepped on it and fell. When I hit the floor, I busted up my chin a little. Nice little gash. Once I finally was able to find some alcohol swabs at Campus Security, I started to try to stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding subsided, I realized that my facial hair was going to be a major impediment to cleaning my wound and bandaging it. I took the plunge and shaved it all off. It is weird to not have anything there after something like four weeks of having it. But mark my words, it will be back!

Mardi Gras!

Today is Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras)!! Hurry and don your yellow, green, and purple and join the celebration! Ernie, the guy who runs the cafeteria on campus even decorated the cafeteria with yellow, green and purple and is handing out beads. This all makes me miss French class so much. I want my crêpe!

Super Bowl XXXIX

February 7th, 2005 | Comments Off | Tagged as: , ,

Final Score:
New England Patriots: 24
Philadelphia Eagles: 21

Really the game wasn’t that bad. However, I think that the commercials made a great rebound after the last few years of mediocrity. I think the best was the guy with the cat and the knife. (Dead cat, anyone?)

For my take on the Patriots and their new age "dynasty", check out my blog.

Of Dynasties, Football

February 7th, 2005 | Comments Off | Tagged as: ,

By now I’m sure that all of you have probably heard the outcome of Super Bowl XXXIX. Everyone is going around, proclaiming the New England Patriots the newest dynasty in football. I beg to differ.

Have we all forgotten the Dallas Cowboys of the early 90s? They were a true dynasty. In consecutive Super Bowls, they easily defeated the Bills. The next year, they lost in the NFC championship game to the San Francisco 49ers, the eventual Super Bowl champs. The following year, they returned to the Super Bowl again, easily handling the Pittsburgh Steelers.

By now, you’re probably thinking, so, they both won three Super Bowls in four years, so why are the Patriots so illegitimate? I say because they barely made it to the Super Bowl their first two times, winning both on last second field goals by Adam Vinatieri. Meanwhile, the Boys beat the Buffalo Bills 52-17 and 30-13 in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII. The next year they lost 38-28 in the NFC championship game to eventual Super Bowl champs the San Francisco 49ers. In their off year, the Pats didn’t even make it to the post-season. The following year, the Boys won the Super Bowl 27-17 over the Steelers.

During the early 90s, no one wanted to have the Cowboys on their schedule. This is because they were a dynasty. On the other hand, while New England has been seen as a threat, they routinely get by with the skin of their teeth, and they even lost to the lowly Miami Dolphins this year. And by the way, that was with their normal starters in, not the rest everybody attitude that the Eagles took at the end.

Solitary Confinement Goes Live!

Finally, after two weeks of coding, copying, image editing, and bug hunting, Solitary Confinement is finally ready to go live. I still have stuff to add, but the site is here enough. So, enjoy the pics and the personal info. There is still more to come.

BTW, sorry IE users. I have a drop down menu for the pics link, but it doesn’t seem to work for you. I guess that is all the more reason to switch to Mozilla Firefox.
